This marble sculpture was moved to the Toa Payoh Town Centre near HDB Hub Park sometime in 2004 from Bukit Merah formerly HDB HQ.

The sculpture was first placed near the HDB headquarters in Bukit Merah, August 27, 1989. It was moved to Toa Payoh Town Centre when the new HDB Hub was completed sometime in 2004.

According to media reports in 1989, this marble sculpture cost S$ 40,000. It was made mostly in Italy over a period of two months and was part of HDB's first public art puchase and commission. The 1.64m high sculpture reflects a part of life in HDB flats. It depicts an old woman carrying a thumb-sucking grandchild.
